By Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco

I have had the privilege of living in New Jersey my entire life. I was born here, went to school here, raised my family here, and continue to work here. Fortunately for me, two of my children have chosen to stay here and raise my three grandchildren. Until recently, I believed we could make New Jersey more affordable to live, work and raise a family by working together on a bipartisan basis.

At this time, however, I have grave concerns about the course that has been set for the future of the state we call home.

As a legislator, I watched Gov. Phil Murphy propose a budget that increases spending by nearly eight percent with nearly $1.6 billion in new or increased taxes. Our debt has reached $60 billion and when added to the $150 billion in unfunded obligations to government pensions and health benefits, the Jersey tab exceeds $200 billion.

It is routinely reported that we have the highest taxes state in the nation. We are ranked the worst state in the country to retire. And, we rank 49th out of 50 states for the worst economic performance in the country. Is it any wonder why governors from other states, such as Texas, are placing ads in our newspapers seeking to lure our residents and businesses away from the Garden State? It should come as no surprise that we have one of the highest outward migrations for retirees and now millennials.

While this might be new to some, for the most part, this information has been known are reported for years. One would think that the state’s negative position among other states in the nation would served as an incentive to reclaim our competitiveness and improve our position in the national rankings.

Unfortunately, the exact opposite is happening in Trenton. Instead of comprehensive planning to reverse our competitive disadvantage and make New Jersey more affordable, the governor and my colleagues across the aisle are considering raising the sales tax to the second highest in the nation; raising the corporate business tax to the highest in the nation; taxing Uber, Lyft and AirBNB; raising taxes on phone usage; and cutting property tax relief in half to fund raises for public unions.

What surprises me the most is that no one seems to care or appear outraged. Is it just because our residents have given up and hope to leave, or are they simply not aware of what is happening?

If you believe that reducing our property tax burden and making New Jersey more affordable should be a priority as I do, I encourage you to show your outrage over what is happening in Trenton. Residents can no longer sit back and allow the Democrats to continue to make New Jersey more unaffordable or fail to address our highest-in-the-nation property taxes.

If there is one thing that I have learned during my time in Trenton, it is that my colleagues tend to respond only when the public becomes engaged. There are many ideas and solutions that would have a positive impact on reducing New Jersey’s high cost of living. Unfortunately, these ideas will not be considered unless the public demands fiscal accountability.

In that regard, I have decided to establish the website wherestheoutragenj.com. I intend to use this site to highlight some of the more outrageous policies coming out of Trenton along with some of the proposed solutions.

Please join me in helping to bring people’s attention to the issues that are affecting all of us, and working to make New Jersey more affordable.

I personally do not want to continue to have our tax money spread amongst the unions and special interests. It is time to review and change, for one, the prevailing wage laws in New Jersey. We spend about $2,000,000 per mile of roadway due to the structure of the bidding scheme. See some excepts below regarding this piece.

I encourage all to form your local groups and take action by bringing this issue to your community and your local representatives office.

While the plan increases our taxation of fuel, "the gas tax would increase by 23 cents a gallon. An estimated 35 percent would be paid by out-of-state motorists.", it provides the following tax cuts.

The plan also includes five tax cuts worked out over the past several months during ongoing negotiations involving Democratic and Republican lawmakers from both the Senate and the Assembly. The plan does not include any changes in jet fuel taxation.

The tax cuts would provide:

Tax Savings for the Working Poor: Increase the Earned Income Tax Credit for the working poor to 40 percent of the federal benefit amount beginning in Tax Year 2016. Total tax savings of $137 million annually.

Tax Savings for Retirees: Increase the New Jersey gross income tax exclusion on pension and retirement income over four years to $100,000 for joint filers, $75,000 for individuals and $50,000 for married/filing separately. In the fifth year, seniors earning up to $125,000 can take a 50 percent credit on up to $100,000 in retirement income and those making up to $150,000 can take a 25 percent credit. Total tax savings of $75 million the first year and $164 million annually when fully phased in.

Eliminate the Estate Tax To Make NJ More Competitive: Phase out the estate tax over 3 1/2 years, replacing the current $675,000 threshold with a $2 million exclusion after January 1, 2017, going to the federal $5.4 million level from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019, and eliminating the estate tax altogether as of January 1, 2020. Total tax savings of $109 million the first year and $552 million annually when fully phased in.

Tax Deductions for NJ Motorists: Provide an annual income tax deduction on up to $500 in state gas taxes paid for all New Jersey motorists with incomes up to $100,000. Total tax savings of $20 million annually.

Tax Savings for Veterans: Provide a $3,000 personal exemption on state income taxes for all New Jersey veterans honorably discharged from active service in the military or the National Guard. Total tax savings of $23 million annually.

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman who advocated for stricter gun laws and sentencing responded to this incident by trying to abuse her power and have the laws changed to release her two sons early. “I sent a letter out making it very clear to people that we didn’t want them,” Christie told Fox News radio host Brian Kilmeade, referencing a Nov. 17 letter the governor sent to President Obama calling for a refugee ban.
“Here is the problem, Brian: The federal government can override us and they are,” Christie said. “The president has made it clear he is not going to listen to any request from any governor not to accept these folks. Since immigration is still a federal issue, the fact is they are going to be able to continue to do what they are doing.”
Running for the Republican presidential nomination as a law-and-order candidate, Christie often tells crowds that, as a former U.S. attorney, he is the only candidate who knows how to “prosecute terrorists.”
That pitch seems to be resonating in New Hampshire, a key state that holds the first presidential primary. Christie’s poll numbers began to rise there after the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 130 last month.
Christie had left open questions as to whether he would seek to remove them or seek to block federal assistance funds from getting to them. Those questions were answered Friday.
“I sent a letter, Brian, there is nothing else for me to do,” Christie told Kilmeade.
In the days after the Paris attacks, Christie drew criticism from Obama and others for demanding a ban on all Syrian refugees seeking asylum in the United States. The Obama administration has announced plans to settle 10,000 such refugees who are fleeing the terrorist Islamic State group that has taken over parts of Iraq and Syria. GOP front-runner Donald Trump has since called for an even broader ban on all Muslim immigration.
In his November letter to the president, Christie wrote, “I will not accept any refugees from Syria in the wake of the deadly Paris terrorist attacks.”
But this month, Christie began to hedge his statements.
‘A federal decision’
“In the end, it’s not my decision. It’s a federal decision,” Christie told reporters Dec. 1 in Manchester, N.H. “It’s immigration law, and the president gets to decide.”
Christie added that he would get a briefing from his staff in Trenton later that week to see “if there are options available to me under the law.”
A spokesman for Christie, Kevin Roberts, said Friday that after being briefed the governor found there was no action he could take.
But Roberts reiterated Christie’s criticism of the vetting process the United States uses to screen refugees. FBI Director James B. Comey has expressed doubts about the government’s ability to vet so many refugees within the time frame set by the Obama administration.
“Until the FBI director has confidence in the process, the governor will not have confidence in the process,” Roberts said.
Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson responded in a letter to 25 governors last month, noting that “the overwhelming majority of Syrian refugees we have accepted and will accept are families, victims of torture, and children.”

“Bottom line — under the current system, if there is any doubt about whether an applicant would pose a security risk, that individual will not be admitted to the United States as a refugee,” they wrote.

The last time I looked, the Federal Code identified those that crossed our border unannounced as "Foreign Invaders". Now we have these oath breaking legislators using our money to seat in committee and prescribe bills that would allow these "Foreign Invaders" the very same privileges that WE HAVE. That's right, driving in New Jersey is a privilege granted to its citizens. Of course we must pay for that privilege, but it is in fact one that can be revoked. So if you don't care that illegals get the same privilege as you and I, than go back to your "frog in the pot" and await the lid to be sealed.
